Limited release, single-vineyard Pinotage, from hand-selected grapes from the foothills of the majestic Kasteelberg Mountain, Kasteelberg Shiraz embodies excellent craftsmanship that transforms the harsh Swartland terroir into the pinnacle of our winemakers’ art.
A true testament to the Swartland terroir, the Kasteeberg Pinotage is sustainably crafted from a protected, 22 year-old, bush-vine vineyard. Hand-selected during harvest, the grapes are further hand-sorted and crushed into an open fermenter, where fermentation is loving tended with regular hand-punch-downs. Following malolactic fermentation on the skins, the wine is hand-pressed, using an old basket press. Matured in older French barrels, for 12 months, the 2016 Kasteelberg Pinotage offers an abundance of rich, ripe cherries and plums, a hint of subtle spice and supple, elegant finish.
Just a few metres lower than Table Mountain, The Kasteelberg mountain range celebrates the discovery of Riebeek and the Kasteelberg mountains in 1661. Kasteelberg stands sentinel over the fertile valleys below. From the slopes of these mountains, hand-selected grapes are expertly crafted with care to produce rare and expressive wines.
The Kasteelberg range, truly is the pinnacle of our Winemakers’ art.
