Riebeek Cellars just returned from a 2 week visit to Oslo Norway, Amsterdam Holland & London UK.
Although the trip had many highlights and interesting turns the main purpose of the visit was the launch of the Riebeek Cellars Pinotage Rose in Oslo!!!
In Europe Spring is in the air and Rose is in many parts of the country seen as a summer time wine, therefor all new Rose’s & Rieslings are usually launched around spring time. For Riebeek Cellars our visit to Oslo was for the same reason: The exciting launch of Riebeek Cellars Pino Rose through 150 Vinomonopolet stores (government controlled stores) – that went on shelf for the first time in Norway (and greater Scandinavia) on Friday 8 May .
We did a tasting at the oldest, most exclusive hotel in Oslo, The Grand, for the Vinomonopolet store staff & head buyers. Our Rose showed very well against other Rose’s & Rieslings at the tasting, especially at our price point. Everyone found it to be exceptional value for the price – crazy to think that at NOK105 (+- R150 / bottle) compared with SA price of +- R40/bottle! They also loved the packaging and Riebeek Cellars brand personality and the fact that as a Pinotage Rose, we offer a uniquely South African Rose. All seemed very optimistic about the success of this wine in the market.
We did a launch event to sales staff, trade-customers (hotels, restaurants, music festival organisers) and consumers (film crews, photographers, artists etc.) with great music, great food and of course EXCEPTIONAL rose! Riebeek Cellars Pinotage Rose was a major hit!!
While we were there, the national newspaper did a review of our Rose and we got a 5 on the dice (5/6), which is an excellent score and will hopefully generate some more awareness and desire for purchase.
They are also listing our Riebeek Cellars Shiraz for next winter – the launch is due September 2015 and the Chenin Blanc!! Hopefully this will be a gateway to the entire range of Riebeek Cellars Collection through the entire Scandanavia (Norway, Sweden, Finland).
Then we went to Holland to show case the new Riebeek Cellars Chenin 2015 & newly launched Short Street Range (S.Rhone-Style Blends). We visited the Grape District that has a very unique approach to wine. They make it easier for consumers to interact with wine from their own needs / perspective as they group wines according to more accessible criteria: Smooth, Fresh, Bubbles, Deep, Rich etc. making it easier for consumers to choose a wine of their specific taste.
We then went to visit our partners who supply our wines to top Hotels & Restaurants and met with some of their clients at a Football match: AZ vs Breda, our team AZ won 3 – 2!!
And our Short Street also scored very well indeed! We also met with our agency who partner with us to enter the Retail Giants in Holland – watch this space!
Last but not at all least we went to London UK for the tastings of Spring & Summer Wines for Fullersmith & Turner Pubs:
Riebeek Cellars attended tastings arranged by Fullersmith & Turner for all their staff to familiarise themselves with the best summer wines around. Riebeek Cellars Chenin 2015, Pinotage Rose & Viognier and Partnership Sauvignon Blanc was the focus for these tastings! And were a fast favourite amongst all. We are very excited to say that many new pubs & restaurants will now feature our wines on the summer wine lists.
Riebeek Cellars also arranged a smaller tasting and South African braai to show them how to pair our Pieter Cruythof Brut, Chenin, Pinotage Rose & Shiraz Cinsault with any summertime outdoor braai – true South Africa style! We braaied boerewors for boerrie-rolls and mielies, complete with Steers BBQ sauce & ALL Gold Tomato sauce. What a day, even the sun decided to join in in the fun for that day!!
We are very optimistic about the future of our wines in the UK and Europe and excited to see the interest and growth in the coming months.
